Sylvester Stallone’s son died eleven years ago. In his documentary “Sly,” the actor talks about the tragic event.
Actor Sylvester Stallone (77) provides private insights in the documentary “Sly”. Among other things, he talks about the death of his son Sage Stallone (1976-2012) in 2012. At the age of just 36, he died of coronary heart disease (atherosclerosis), which caused a heart attack.
Director Thom Zimny’s Netflix documentary shows footage of the then 14-year-old Sage playing Robert, the son of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), in “Rocky V.” The story of the 1990 film revolves around Rocky’s difficult relationship with his child, who believes that Rocky spends much more time with boxer Tommy “The Machine” Gun (Tommy Morrison, 1969-2013) than with his family, including wife Adrianna “Adrian” Pennino Balboa (Talia Shire, 77).
“Unfortunately, you put things before your family.”
Sylvester Stallone also used real life experiences in his “Rocky” and “Rambo” films. When asked in the documentary whether his own family history also influenced the father-son drama in “Rocky V,” Stallone answers: “Unfortunately, yes.”
Stallone adds in the documentary: “I was trying to do something that I would have liked to do in real life but wasn’t possible in reality. […] Much of this is true. Unfortunately, you put things before your family. And the effects are quite radical and devastating.”
Sage was his firstborn
Sage came from Stallone’s first marriage (1974-1985) to actress Sasha Czack (73). On July 13, 2012, he was found dead in his home in Los Angeles. “Sylvester Stallone devastated and grieving sudden loss of son”, . “His condolences and thoughts are with Sage’s mother, Sasha. Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man. His loss will be felt forever.”
The two have another son named Seargeoh (born 1979). Stallone’s second marriage (1985-1987) to Brigitte Nielsen (60) remained childless. His third marriage (since 1997) to the model Jennifer Flavin (55) resulted in three daughters Sophia (27), Sistine (25) and Scarlet (21).
“Sly” has been available on Netflix since November 3rd.
