King Charles unveils statue of the Queen – and sheds a tear

For King Charles III. It was more than just a public appearance: when he unveiled the life-size statue of his mother, he couldn’t hold back a tear.

For King Charles III. The past few years have not been easy, as both his parents died within a short space of time. His father Prince Philip died in April 2021 and his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September 2022.

Now Charles completed what was certainly a special appointment for him. At the Festival of Remembrance, he not only commemorated fallen British soldiers in the Royal Albert Hall, but also unveiled a life-size bronze statue of the Queen. He pulled aside a red velvet curtain. His wife Camilla did the same with Prince Philip’s effigy.

King Charles cries at the sight of his mother’s statue

In pictures from the event you can see Charles looking down depressed, tears shining in his eyes. The British newspaper “Daily Mail” found the king to be “very emotional” at the event.

Charles was accompanied by his siblings Prince Edward and Princess Anne, among others. His son William and his wife Kate were also present on site and were able to provide some comfort with their presence.

Royal fans may have noticed by now that Charles is built close to the water when it comes to his mother. Because it’s not the first time that Charles has shown himself to be emotional this year. He is said to have cried at the Royal Ascot horse race in June, as RTL reported: “The 74-year-old was so overwhelmed that he knocked over his trophy on the winner’s podium.” The special thing: The king’s horse named “Desert Hero” won the race.

It had previously belonged to the Queen and Charles had taken it over – and so the win probably reminded him painfully of his mother. Charles is said to have “even burst into tears in the royal box”.

For the British, the fact that he is so open with his emotions will only make their king more likeable and approachable.
