The film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, stars Xolo Maridueña in the lead role and his alter ego, Jaime Reyes.

Blue Beetle comes to HBO Max this November 17, as part of the exclusive premieres of the “From the cinema to your home” franchise on HBO Max, which premieres the highest-grossing films of Warner Bros. and other major film studios after its theatrical release.

The feature film comes from Warner Bros. Pictures Blue Beetle , which marks the first time the DC superhero has appeared on the big screen. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Sotostars Xolo Maridueña in the lead role and his alter ego, Jaime Reyes.

What Blue Beetle is about

Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate, returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to discover that his home is not the way he left it. As he seeks to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime as his symbiotic host, he is granted an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.

Along with Maridueña (Cobra Kai) are Adriana Barraza (Rambo: Last Blood, Thor), Damian Alcazar (Narcos, Narcos: Mexico), Elpidia Carrillo (Mayans MC, Predator), Bruna Marquezine (Maldives, God Save the King), Raoul Max Trujillo (the Sicario movies, Mayans MC), with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (Monarch, Dead Man Walking) and George Lopez (the Rio and The Smurfs franchises). The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories, Hocus Pocus 2) and Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows).

Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings, The Farm) directs from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala), based on DC characters. John Rickard and Zev Foreman are producing, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Garrett Grant executive producing.

The director’s creative team behind the scenes includes cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski (Midsommar, Hereditary), production designer John Billington (Bad Boys for Life) and editor Craig Alpert (Deadpool 2, The Lost City), the designer of Oscar-nominated costumer Mayes C. Rubeo (Jojo Rabbit, the Thor films), visual effects supervisor Kelvin McIlwain (Suicide Squad, Aquaman) and composer Bobby Krlic (Midsommar, the Snowpiercer series).
