This story does not follow that trend and has the result that today the country has a local London Dry Gin that obtained gold recognition in the Global Spirits Master Competition, one of the most prestigious awards globally organized by experts in the field. of spirits and cocktails.

The local distillery that gave life to the winning Gin is Sinestesia. This term means subjective image or sensation, typical of one sense, determined by another sensation that affects a different sense. The history of this product has a lot to do with its name and the journey of its makers.

Nahuel Leyro Diaz and Hannah Snow Back in 2012 they traveled to Europe with the dream of returning to Argentina to carry out an ambitious project, for which sufficient funds had to be raised during its preliminary stage. Nahuel took advantage of this trip to train in the best distilleries in Scotland, England and the Netherlands, while Hannah, originally from Ventor, Isle of Wight in Great Britain, already had a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford and vast experience in development of projects in the financial aspect. At the same time, Nicolas Rothstein He was based in Buenos Aires and developed various businesses in the gastronomic and beer markets, participating in their projects both in the productive side and also in the commercial field. There were three years of trials, testing and adaptations by botanists in London, while Nicolás paved the way for the implementation of the project from Buenos Aires. Finally the day came to return to Buenos Aires for Nahuel and Hannah, in order to meet Nicolas and together they start the Sinestesia project in the area of ​​Tortuguitas, province of Buenos Aires.

“We decided to apply in our country the knowledge and experience obtained in Europe, precisely in the region with the most history in distillates and, of course, we brought to it the Argentine and South American imprint, always based on intercultural respect,” says Nicolás.

The winning distillery’s still was imported from the Netherlands, possibly making Sinestesia the only distillery in Argentina and one of three in South America to have this technology.

The experienced judges who did the tasting analyzed the aromas, flavors and sensation in the mouth, and decided to reward this Argentine creation for the subtle perfume and balance, where the botanicals act as a cushion for the juniper, which is the predominant profile, as indicated the London Dry style.

Nicolás points out that the award significantly impacted the demand and the projects that are being presented to the distillery and added: “if before we were clear about what our direction was, from now on we have no choice but to redouble our commitment to continue in the path of constant improvement, and continue leaving Argentine distillates at the top internationally.”

As a novelty towards the end of November, the gold medal-winning distillery will be launching a new distillate in a limited batch of just 600 bottles (2 bottles per box), for which they will be launching a pre-sale in the coming days. that they will announce publicly on their social networks. It is a gin inspired by Plum Pudding, a dessert that the great-grandmother of one of the members of Sinestesia made. “From here we took some ingredients to create a new sensation and presented two limited expressions, one rested in ex-whiskey American oak barrels and another without resting.”

This story is just beginning. And he does it in the best way: bringing the global cup to the country, producing in Argentina the best gin in the world.
