The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host previously hosted the 2017, 2018 and 2023 broadcasts. The 2017 ceremony produced the now infamous best picture mistake “La La Land” and “Moonlight”. Kimmel will now sit alongside four other presenters as Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. The only people who have presented more times are Johnny Carson (5), Billy Crystal (9) and Bob Hope (eleven).


“I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” Kimmel said in a statement. McNearney added that she feels “especially honored to be part of the Oscars team this year.”

The 2023 Oscar ratings saw an increase in viewership, attracting an average audience of 18.8 million total viewers, up 13% from previous figures. It beat the 2023 Grammys and Emmys by more than double. The ceremony earned a 4.0 rating in the key adults 18-49 demo, taking it to three-year highs in both total viewers and the demo — a 5% increase from 2020.
Possible candidates for the 2024 Oscar Awards
The films that could compete for awards this year offer well-known titles, in particular “Barbie” from Warner Bros. and “Oppenheimer” from Universal Pictures. The “Barbenheimer” took over movie theaters and pop culture. Both are expected to be heavy favorites in the best picture race alongside acclaimed films like “American Fiction”, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, “Maestro” and “Poor Things”.
This year’s celebration of cinematic achievements will be executive produced by Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan and Hamish Hamilton. Kapoor will also serve as showrunner. Other members of the team include creative director Kenny Gravillis, production designers Misty Buckley and Alana Billingsley, red carpet show executive producer David Chamberlin and red carpet creative consultants Lisa Love and Raúl Àvila.
Last year’s 95th ceremony earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Kimmel earned an additional nomination for her late-night show in the talk series category, bringing her career nomination total to 20. Results will be revealed in January.
The 96th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theater on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
