George RR Martin claims he begged HBO for “Game of Thrones” to have 10 seasons

As part of a new journalist book James Andrew Miller, titled “Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers”, Martin’s agent, Paul Jass, noted that: “George flew to New York to have lunch with Richard Plepler (former HBO CEO) to beg him to do 10 seasons of 10 episodes.”

“There was enough material for it and also to tell him that it would be more satisfying and a more entertaining experience,” the agent recounted in the book.

But the showrunners were exhausted, with good reason. They were ready and wanted to finish, so they shortened it and the negotiations became how many seasons they could stretch it, because obviously in HBO they wanted more, “he added as reported by Insider.

In this scenario, the book also gives an account of other elements that worried the creator of the story.

“George loves Dan and Dave [Los showrunners D.B. Weiss y David Beniof]But after the fifth season he did start to worry about the path they were following because George knows where the story is going. He started to say: You are not following my template. The first five seasons followed George’s map. Then they started to get off that map, ”Jass explained.

Despite the fact that Game of Thrones was a success with audiences, the last season was widely criticized by both critics and audiences. And, to date, George R.R. Martin the penultimate book of the saga remains unpublished.
