See and hear the Dead Mountains in a new way

Of our “seemingly perfectly prepared world into the wild, radically original nature” the big one wants “World-space path” lead.

The experience, which will be part of the Capital of Culture 2024 from January, was presented today in Bad Ischl. This is a precisely composed audio piece in which participants can immerse themselves via smartphone and headphones at selected stations and thus experience the surrounding world in a new, different way.

The path begins in your own bathroom and initially leads from the Bad Ischl parish church to the Rettenbachalm. This first stage will already be accessible at the start of the Capital of Culture year.

From July next year, when the hiking trails are accessible without snow, the “World-space path” on five to seven daily stages from hut to hut (Ischler Hütte, Hochkogelhaus, Albert-Appel-Haus/Wildseenhütte, Pühringer Hütte, Prielschutzhaus) until the descent to Hinterstoder. Project manager Christoph Viscorsum developed the auditory immersion in the Dead Mountains and its rocky desert together with Andreas Hagelüken. For example, both audio artists worked on the Gusen audio trail.

On the “World-space path” are called recordings “Thought compositions” can be heard, which include passages from in-depth interviews. For this purpose, people spoke to mountaineer Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, musician Hubert von Goisern and the Munich author Ariadne von Schirach (“The dance about desire”).

Behind the project are the Bad Ischl town parish church, the cultural capital’s section for church projects and also the Bad Ischl tourism association and the Salzkammergut section of the Alpine Association. The parish ensures that the… “World-space path” will remain accessible until 2035.
