The Italian multinational reaffirms its leadership in the development of “smart” winemaking by integrating cutting-edge technology with its solutions for wine production.
Enartis, an Italian multinational belonging to the Esseco Group, is committed to the use of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence, for the development of its products in the alcoholic beverages sector and in the wine products and services market. Within this framework, the process of acquiring the majority of the shares of WATGRID, a Portuguese company that has developed and patented cutting-edge technology for controlling wine production using sensors, was completed.

Samuele Benelli, CEO of Enartis, commented: “This allows the company to consolidate its position worldwide in the wine sector, offering its customers an integrated range of products and services, even more complete and innovative.”

The technology is based on the use of smart sensors that are applied to different stages of wine production, especially during fermentation. These sensors are capable of collecting data in real time, both on the development of fermentation and on other important parameters.
The data collected is processed using Artificial Intelligence (AI) software and advanced algorithms within its own information system on a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform. This provides winemakers with valuable information about the wine fermentation and aging process, to help them make the best decisions quickly and reduce production costs.
“In line with Enartis’ goal of creating ‘smart winemaking’ to support wineries around the world, WINEGRID technology will allow producers to increase the efficiency of their wineries. In addition to this, the Artificial Intelligence software will allow them perform predictive analyzes of their production, minimizing the need for product sampling and analysis during the winemaking process,” stated Piermario Ticozzelli, Strategic Business Director of Enartis.
“Enartis represents an opportunity for WINEGRID to have direct access to the wine sector worldwide, thanks to the perfect integration of knowledge from both worlds, born separately but naturally complementary: together we listen to the voice of winegrowers and respond to their needs” , stated Rogério Nogueira, co-founder and CEO of WINEGRID. “This is an important milestone to accelerate the adoption of our technology around the world and give the opportunity to more and more wine producers to make the most of each harvest,” confirmed Lúcia Bilro, co-founder and CTO of WINEGRID.
