The 24th “Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre”, the dean of horror film festivals and bizarre films in Latin America, begins today at Multiplex Belgrano and at the Cultural San Martín. As usual, there are competitions, previews, rescues from the Cine Club La Cripta, retrospectives (this year, the first works of Demian Rugna), talks, workshops and book presentations.

To point out, due to the expectations they arouse and/or the humorous nature of their titles, “Black Friday”, by Eli Roth, the Turkish “The Funeral” (fable of the caretaker and the woman neither alive nor dead), “Daughter of the Sun “, “Black Metal from the End of the World”, the Chilean films “Eros Thanatos” and “Isla Alien”, “The Other Way”, Colombian-Brazilian animation, the Spanish films “The Dining Room Table” and “Os Reviento”, and , of national production, “Mar IA” (Nicanor Loreti & Gabriel Greco), “Marisa y Gomoso” (Pablo Pares), “Lavanderia Nancy Sport”, “Dark Tales”, the co-productions with the US “Ghost Project” and “The Caregiver”, the drawing “Lava 2. Narciso’s new show (Ayar Blasco), the documentaries “Another damned movie” (Alberto Fasce & Mario Varela) and “In the footsteps of Dracula” (Alexis Puig), etc.

A rarity suitable for all audiences, and especially for those who were children in the 80s: “Life After the Never Ending Story”, by Lisa Downs, with interviews with the performers and technicians of “The Never Ending Story”, which in 2024 will celebrate 40 years. Another oddity, “The Primevals”, where an expedition in search of the yeti falls into the hands of aliens. The live-action scenes and most of the stop motion effects were filmed in 1994, but the death of director David Allen and the studio’s bankruptcy meant that everything was put into storage. Luckily in 2019, after a long fundraising campaign, effects artist Chris Endicott reconnected with the material and completed what was missing, a task that culminated last July with the premiere in the US and Canada. From there, directly to Sitges and Buenos Aires.
