The band made up of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith had their first big night on Argentine soil.
Last night one of the most anticipated recitals of the year took place: it was the first of two shows by Red Hot Chili Peppers at the River Plate stadium, as part of their tour “Global Stadium Tour”. It was a night of celebration and reunion for the band and the local public since their visit in 2017. In addition, it marked the return of the formation with the iconic guitarist John frusciante after 10 years of absence from the band.

Shortly after 9:00 pm, the legendary Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Frusciante, to start with a classic groove improvisation jam that showed that the Peppers’ chemistry and freshness is still intact. Applauded, they immediately got hooked on a classic that as soon as it started playing unleashed the fervor of the entire stadium: “Can’t Stop”of the disk By the Way (2002). They had just started and the energy was already epic: the strength of Red Hot live is undeniable. Two emblematic songs followed, the magical “The Zephyr Song”and the hitero “Dani California”of Stadium Arcadium (2006) chanted by thousands of fans at the top of their lungs. It was an overwhelming start that laid the foundations for the party that would be experienced throughout the show.

A musical force called Red Hot Chili Peppers
There were moments for improvisations that were born from Flea’s bass and were closely followed by Frusciante’s incendiary guitar, Chad contributing his strength from his drums. At times it seemed that the stadium became a large rehearsal room and the public became privileged guests.
“Aquatic Mouth”of Unlimited Love, one of his two albums from 2022, was the first song of the new material that was played. The setlist was already beginning to show signs of the classic and the new, to the delight of its first-time fans and the new generations that are joining through their latest releases. It would be followed by a moment dedicated to: “Throw away your TV”. Then another of the new ones arrived with “Eddie”song from the other of their new albums from last year, Return of the Dream Canteen.

A segment followed that included the heartfelt “Soul to Squeeze”a song they did in 1993 for the movie Coneheads, “Parallel Universe”, “Strip my mind” and “Right on time” (with the start of “London Calling” including). In the middle of this set Frusciante starred in a moment of the show when he performed as a soloist “Terrapin”a cover by the late founding member of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett. Then they came “The Heavy Wing” and the frenetic “Suck My Kiss”.
By the end of the setlist, Red Hot were nowhere near letting up. One of the most intense moments of the night was experienced with “Californication” and “Black Summer”giving way to a nostalgic descent with the impressive “By the Way”which was sung from beginning to end.
For the arrival of the encores, the Californian band chose “I Could Have Lied” and finally, the final explosion with “Give It Away” of Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), almost a manifesto for the band, a final signature for a night that testifies to the magnitude of their musical legacy. Maybe some unsuspecting person can talk about the length of the show or the band’s jams, but those are the live peppers: a share of improvisation, forcefulness and musical virtuosity.
Red Hot Chili Peppers will close its concert saga in our country next Sunday the 26th in the same stadium.
