It’s so easy to grow your family. Thomas Gottschalk made a faux pas in his last “Wetten, dass…?” broadcast. He mixed up the surnames Schweinsteiger and Schweighöfer (several times) – the two made fun of it.
“The Schweinsteigers,” tweeted Bastian Schweinsteiger after the last “Wetten,dass..?” broadcast, showing not only himself and his wife Ana Ivanovic, but also the new addition to the family. The actor Matthias Schweighöfer inserted himself into the middle of the athlete couple.
This joke came about because presenter Thomas Gottschalk, 73, played around with the names of his guests. Matthias Schweighöfer sat next to him on the couch, talked about his latest film “Girl You Know It’s True”, the trailer was played and the camera panned back to the couch. Then Gottschalk quickly made him the namesake of the World Cup hero. Matthias Schweighöfer became Matthias Schweinsteiger.
The presenter and his guests were probably a bit confused because the former national player Bastian Schweinsteiger and his wife, the tennis player Ana Ivanovic, only came into the show a little later.
Schweinsteiger and Schweighöfer make fun of “Wetten, dass?” promises
After the show, the two celebrities, whose names were swapped, made fun of the Gottschalk slip and posted a video on social media. They introduced themselves again and then discussed which surname they could now agree on: Schweinsteiger or Schweighöfer? Matthias Schweinsteiger or would you rather Basti Schweighöfer? Because of the similarity of names, Bastian Schweinsteiger immediately considered a lifelong relationship: “… definitely married for the rest of our lives,” joked the footballer.
The two men were then able to agree on their shared Christmas wishes: “Merry Pig Christmas,” they wished the audience and the real Schweinsteiger could barely stop himself from laughing.
