This man from Linz is known as the heart of the radio band “Hot Pants Road Club”. But when Andie Gabauer appears on December 14th at the OÖN Christkindl Gala with numerous like-minded people in Linz for a good cause (more below)you will experience the 54-year-old differently: the singer and guitarist will perform solo and will strike quieter tones.

The reason? The state of senselessness in which the world currently presents itself to us in the face of war.

Pause on stage

In the theater Gabauer, “because that’s how it happens in our world”John Lennon’s song “Imagine” present. This anthem for peace, released by the Beatles mastermind (1940-1980) in 1971, “is more relevant than it has been for a long time”says Gabauer. Just imagine that Lennon was in it more than half a century ago “Thoughts for a peaceful world. And in truth, nothing has gotten better. When I was a child, I thought humanity had learned from the world wars.” But in the 1990s, with the war in Yugoslavia, he had already learned that “that we can have war right on our doorstep”. Not everyone was interested “Instead, we calmly went on vacation while people were massacred for reasons that no one can rationally understand anymore”. Today reminds him of this again, so he brings it as a counterpoint “Imagine”a ballad that says (in German) to imagine a world, “where there is nothing to die or fight for” could. Gabauer: “No borders, no property, no religious fanaticism. A world in which we live together in peace in all our diversity and with all our talents would be the most beautiful thing of all.”

Many people who live in Central Europe “would be most fortunate to be able to have everything at any time.” Against this background, he helps those who don’t have it so well here, wherever he can. “And very much so.”

During Advent, which is an intense time for people working in the arts, an appearance like the one at the gala even gives him the opportunity to pause. If songs like “Imagine” unfold their effect, this is also transferred to the performer. “A little bit of the Christkindl also comes to me on stage.”
