Nosferatu, Robert Eggers’ film, confirms its release date

It is the second remake of FW Murnau’s iconic 1922 silent film inspired by Dracula, following Werner Herzog’s 1979 film “Nosferatu the Vampyre.”

The new version of Nosferatu of Robert Eggerswhich has been in the works for a long time, will hit theaters during Christmas 2024.

Focus Features has scheduled the film for a December 25, 2024 release. On its current release date, “Nosferatu” will land on the big screen a few days after “Mufasa”the prequel to “The Lion King” from Disney and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” from Paramount, both open December 20.

Eggers wrote and directed this version of “Nosferatu,” which features a cast made up of Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe. It is the second remake of the iconic 1922 silent film inspired by Dracula of FW Murnauafter the movie Werner Herzog from 1979 “Nosferatu the Vampyre”.

The new interpretation of the cinematic classic is described as a “gothic story of obsession between a tormented young woman and the terrifying vampire in love with her, causing unspeakable horror in her wake.” Eggers’ vision was first announced in 2015 and, at one point, was going to star Harry Styles.

“Robert Eggers’ bold filmmaking is always a gift to fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning a great holiday party,” Focus Features president Peter Kujawski said in a statement.

Eggers also serves as producer alongside Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov and John Graham. Focus distributes “Nosferatu” in the U.S. and Universal Pictures International is handling international distribution.

“Nosferatu” marks the latest collaboration between Eggers and Focus Features following the 2022 Viking epic “The Northman”. It also reunites Eggers with Columbus, who executive produced the filmmaker’s previous titles “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse.”
