“Our part at night”the novel released in Argentina in 2019, arrived in the United States this year with the title “Our share of the night” maintaining the successful path that he inaugurated from the Argentine plain: it is the only local book recommended by Time among the 100 favorite reads of the year.
Published as the winning novel of the 2019 Herralde Prize, “Our Part of the Night” won, the same year as its release, the Kelvin 505 awards for “Best Original Novel in Spanish”, Celsius for “Best Science Fiction, Horror Novel or fantasy written in Spanish”, and that of the Castilian Narrative Criticism.
The book of about 700 pages became a critical and best-seller success, with circulation marked, in its first year, by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In Latin America it has had 30 editions and was translated into Italian, French, German and Norwegian, in addition to English.
In the United States “Our Part of the Night” was a success since the beginning of this yearwith praise from renowned media with notable sections dedicated to literary culture such as The New York Times.
What “Our Part of the Night” is about
The novel covers the final years of the last Argentine dictatorship and the beginnings of the democratic era through the story of a father and son with powers granted by ancient and dark gods.
They are both mediums in a cult that uses them to communicate with what the book presents as the Darkness. The sect is managed by the in-laws of the father, Juan Petersen, who seeks to sever all ties, in a story in which state terrorism intersects.
The synopsis reads: “A father and son cross Argentina by road, from Buenos Aires towards the Iguazú Falls, on the northern border with Brazil. These are the years of the military junta, there are checkpoints by armed soldiers and tension in the environment. The son is called Gaspar and the father tries to protect him from the destiny that has been assigned to him”.
Born on December 6, 1973, Enriquez is an Argentine writer who has generated a strange phenomenon: her readers give body to a mass of fans and followers with gestures more similar to those who worship legendary rock groups than to fauna. that can be found at any book event.
