Actor: 93-year-old Mario Adorf doesn’t rule out further films

Mario Adorf actually wanted to end his career with a film with Michael Caine some time ago. But then Corona came. Does he have other plans now?

Mario Adorf (93) can imagine being in front of the camera again. “If it were a good role, a role that you say: ‘You have to play that.’ But to be honest, it’s not my ambition,” said the actor to the German Press Agency in Munich. Adorf’s last film was four years ago.

Corona has thwarted further plans. Among other things, he wanted to make a film with Michael Caine and end his career. “Now the end came a bit abruptly. I would have imagined it differently. But that’s just the way it is.” He doesn’t feel the need to play anything else. “I am happy.”

On Sunday, Adorf attended a cinema matinee in Munich, where he has his main residence. A restored and technically prepared version of the film “Winnetou I” was shown. The occasion was the 60th anniversary of the premiere of the Karl May film adaptation. The first performance took place on December 11, 1963. According to a spokeswoman, the new version is available on DVD.

Adorf played the role of the villain Santer in the film. He shot Nscho-tschi (Marie Versini), Winnetou’s (Pierre Brice) sister. He was hated by “Winnetou” fans for this, Adorf said with amusement. He continues to be approached about the role to this day.

Adorf is one of the most prominent character actors in cinema, television and on stage. In recent decades he has appeared in films and series such as “The Tin Drum”, “The Rosemarie Girl”, “Rossini”, “Kir Royal” and “The Great Bellheim”.
