In her “home” of Nashville, tornadoes have claimed lives. Taylor Swift donates $1 million to those affected.
Taylor Swift (33) opens her bags for the victims of the tornadoes in Tennessee. The superstar is donating $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund. Its chairman confirmed this to USA Today.
Several storms have raged in the US state in recent days. At least six people died in the storms in the capital, Nashville, and in nearby Clarksville. Other people were injured and taken to hospital. Houses were damaged in both cities and 80,000 people are currently without power.
“Nashville is my home”
Taylor Swift has a close bond with Tennessee. Although she was born in Pennsylvania, she moved with her family to Hendersonville in the southern state when she was a teenager, where she attended high school. Here she was closer to Nashville, the center of country music in the USA. Swift took her first steps in the genre as a singer and songwriter as a teenager.
In 2020, Taylor Swift donated $1 million to victims of deadly tornadoes in Tennessee. “Nashville is my home and the fact that so many people in Middle Tennessee have lost their homes and much more is devastating to me,” the singer wrote on Instagram at the time.
Generous billionaire
Taylor Swift is not only generous when it comes to emergency aid after natural disasters. During her current record-breaking Eras tour, she financially supported local initiatives in many of the cities where she played. For example, she considered food banks and other food aid organizations in Arizona and California. The newly crowned billionaire also paid her tour employees a big bonus totaling $55 million.
