Oprah Winfrey breaks her silence: the medicine helped her lose weight

For months, the world was puzzled as to how Oprah Winfrey lost so much weight so quickly. Now she admits: Medication was also involved.

The American talk queen Oprah Winfrey (69) has cleared the air. After months of speculation about her massive weight loss, she now revealed in a statement that she had resorted to medication. Even now she would still use so-called weight loss medicine to counteract the treacherous yo-yo effect.

“The fact that there is a medically approved recipe for controlling weight and staying healthy feels like a relief to me, a release, a gift, rather than something to hide for and for which I am once again making a fool of myself,” Winfrey said. She no longer feels like having to be ashamed of it in front of other people, but also in front of herself.

Winfrey, who has struggled with weight fluctuations for years and has spoken openly about it, explained that she used to blame herself for being overweight. But she has now realized that she has a disposition “that no amount of willpower can get under control.” The presenter did not reveal exactly which medication she was taking.

Hiking also helped Oprah Winfrey lose weight

Thanks to the weight-loss medication, for example, she only gained “half a pound” after Thanksgiving this year; last year alone, after the holidays, that was “eight pounds,” or almost four kilograms. She hasn’t yet reached her goal weight of just over 70 kilograms, but she doesn’t really care about the pure numbers either.

For her, the whole thing is more of an opportunity to “lead a more vital and lively life.” The medication is just one component in a larger fitness and health program that she has imposed on herself. Oprah Winfrey wants to clarify: “I know everyone thought I was on drugs, but I worked so damn hard.” She knows that weight loss doesn’t work if you don’t also train and pay attention to “all the other things.”

She is currently hiking five to eight kilometers every day, which has helped her a lot. On the weekends she regularly travels around 15 kilometers. “I now feel stronger, fitter and more alive than I have in years,” explains Winfrey proudly.
