Hip Hop will have its own museum in New York in 2024

Located in the Bronx, the New York neighborhood where Hip Hop was born, the museum will be dedicated to telling the history of the music that has become a global phenomenon.

Although it was planned to open at the end of 2023, it will finally be in 2024 when the hotel opens its doors for the first time. Universal Hip Hop Museum in New York City, a space that through objects, multimedia documents, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality will review the history, beginnings and impact of that musical genre.

Located in the Bronx, the New York neighborhood where Hip Hop was born, the museum will be dedicated to narrating the history of the music that has become a global phenomenon, with exponents such as Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Cardi Bamong many others.

What the Hip Hop Museum will be like in New York

At 65 East 149th Street, near the Yankees baseball stadium, the brand new museum, also designed to accompany the 50 years of the founding of that genre, will house iconic objects such as published records, but will also enable an area for graffiti, a studio recording area and a stage for recitals and freestyle battles. Likewise, there will be spaces with virtual reality and holograms, always aiming at constant interaction with its visitors.

“You will see not only the story of how Hip Hop started in the Bronx, but how it has impacted the entire world”said the executive director of the space, Rocky Bucanoin statements to CBS New York, in which he also urged: “We want them to come to the Bronx. We want them to see the rebirth of the neighborhood,” he enthused.

In 2021, the first stone of what will be the future Universal Hip Hop Museum had been laid, an event attended by celebrities of the musical genre to celebrate the new cultural destination.

Rocky Bucano noted that until now “there was no physical place dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the history and culture of Hip Hop.”

Emerging in the slums of the Bronx in the 70s, Hip Hop has become an inseparable part of popular culture and its name refers to the culture of music, dance and fashion that developed about 50 years ago.
