Netflix shared a first preview of Eddie Murphy’s return to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise as Axel Foley in the fourth film in the saga.
Officially titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Fthe film follows detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), who is back in Beverly Hills. After her daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylor Paige) and Foley join forces with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to raise the temperature and discover a conspiracy.

The streaming platform has the film ready for release in mid-2024. Mark Molloy directs the sequel, with Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot repeating their characters from previous installments. Will Beall wrote the script. Murphy also produces, along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman by Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic are executive producers. Co-produced by Melissa Reid of Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
“Eddie is an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy, he can do anything. And he is the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously, with age you become wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye,” Bruckheimer said of the film.
The franchise Beverly Hills Cop moved from Paramount to Netflix in winter 2019 and follows the adventures of Detroit cop Foley, who first appeared in the 1984 smash hit that followed him to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of a friend. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year and solidified Murphy’s movie star status. Two sequels followed, in 1987 and 1994. The first film grossed $234 million at the US box office, making it the highest-grossing domestic release of 1984, and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1985.
