Greentech Festival 2021: Green Card

Car shows are out – meanwhile other formats are fighting for the space that has become free in the hearts of former car fans with green ideas. The best example is the Greentech Festival in Berlin, which is all about alternative energies. Of course, the auto industry does not want to be missing.

For the second time, the Greentech Festival is taking place at Kraftwerk Berlin under Corona conditions. A normal program with full attendance is unthinkable due to the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, the festival is like most other events: it is a hybrid event that only partially takes place as an attendance event. Most of the participants in the festival join the panel discussions, talks and keynotes online and deal with “creations for a greener future” as announced by the organizer. The squad of speakers can be seen and heard. The offer ranges from alleged environmental activists to Gail Whiteman, director of an Artikcamp, extreme sailor Boris Herrmann, Sabine Mauderer from the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbank to singer Brian Adams or responsible persons from Deutsche Bahn or Timotheus Höttges from Telekom.

When it comes to green topics, the auto industry should not be missing and brands such as BMW, Audi, Mini, MAN, Skoda, Hyundai, Volvo or Volocopter are represented at the festival to get their green message out to the world and participate in discussions bring in. Nico Rosberg is not only promoting his own racing team in the Extreme E electric racing series, which is little known in the media, but the former Formula 1 champion is also one of the initiators of the Berlin eco-event. Audi is sending its Chief Development Officer Oliver Hoffmann to the Greentech event, who, in addition to the public premiere of the electric Q4 E-Tron, gives an insight into renewable energies. “Last year we showed how we want to avoid as much CO2 as possible in production and the supply chain,” says Audi brand manager Henrik Wenders. “This year we are showing that Audi also has other products, processes and materials in mind. We are convinced that that sustainable technologies become enablers for a future worth living in and the mobility of tomorrow. Sustainability is firmly anchored in our mindset – and we want to actively help shape it and inspire others to do the same. ”

Competitor BMW is also represented at the Greentech Festival. Mini brand boss Bernd Körber and Holger Hampf, President Designworks, are among the keynote speakers. “Greentech’s visionary, sustainable and future-oriented platform fits perfectly with the BMW Group’s claim to always be a driver of change,” explains Stefan Ponikva, Head of BMW Brand Experience, “with our commitment at this year’s Greentech Festival we want innovation and performance of the BMW Group beyond the classic automotive topics. The topics of sustainability and the potential of the circular economy for environmental and climate protection also play a very important role in activating our platforms. ” Both brands are concerned with sustainability, which should be reflected in the corporate culture as well as in development, supply chains, production or final recycling. For the first time to be admired by the public in Berlin: the electric BMW i4. Already better known: the BMW i3 Urban Suite with its unusual lounge interior was presented to the public at the CES in Las Vegas. At the Greentech Festival, like from other manufacturers, several vehicles are on the road as shuttles.

At the event, Skoda will be unveiling various technologies, concepts and technologies, as well as its electric Enyaq iV 80x SUV with 195 kW / 265 PS four-wheel drive. Hyundai is also taking part in the Greentech Festival for the third time and not only stages its electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 or the fuel cell vehicle of the Nexo, but also presents its newly founded subsidiary Cradle – Center for Robotic-Augmented Design in Living Experiences, which deals with the Developing advanced future technologies. Cradle with locations in Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv and Berlin focuses on developing mobility services, smart cities and environmentally friendly technologies.
