Narbona stands out at Punta del Este parties

December 29, 2023 – 00:00

Six classic DJs, including Kahlo, Zucker, Pepper and Bob Tosh, will liven up the end of the year at El Galpón

The galpon. The Narbonne festival became a tradition for many local residents at the end of the year.

The end of the year is the ideal date to get away from the madding crowd, although with the possibility of immersing yourself in another noise that is more inviting, more cordial, more like friends. Thus, in many places festivals are organized whose history determines, depending on the greater or lesser time since its birth, a form of tradition. In Punta del Este, one of the most famous, and which year after year stands out above the others, is Narbona, which will take place next Sunday, with dinner included, at El Galpón, its new space (Camino de La Vid, La Barra, 20,000 Punta del Este)

On this occasion, those in charge of the decks will be the historical DJs Javier Zucker, Pepper, Khalo, Tomás Sáenz and the Bob Tosh duo. “A very experienced line up that ensures good music, fun and dancing until dawn,” as defined by the party organizer, Pepe Cantón, son of businessman “Pacha” Cantón, who is the founder of the place.

“It is a party that targets an age group higher than the average that is handled in Punta del Este for year-end events, that is, from 30 years old and up,” says Marcelo Meca, associated with Cantón and who works in direct line with Kahlo, one of the DJs at the party. “Narbona stands out because it is the most familiar, we could call it that,” continues Meca, “most of its usual attendees are usually people from the neighborhood, for example Valeria Mazza, who comes with her children, as she did last year, or Milagros Brito, or Viviana Canosa, who I believe is already in Punta del Este. In short, it is a meeting, although huge, but like a niche of friends. About 750 covers are already reserved for dinner, the subsequent dance until dawn on the first day of 2024 is more open. Our capacity is up to 2,500 people, which was the attendance we had last year. We’ll see how it turns out this year.

Regarding the type of sounds that will resonate in the air of Narbonne, Meca is clear: “The music corresponds to that of the 80s and 90s, what is known as “commercial” as we call it, no cumbia or those things. It is music appropriate to the attendance, to the well-being that all our guests want to have.”

When asked if the situation the country is going through influenced the end-of-year festivities, he answers: “No, but let’s think that Punta del Este is an international destination. In fact, I would say that it is the opposite, because at the end of last year there were only three big parties, and this year there are already like 10, but of course the origin of those who attend is widely distributed. There are many Americans, English, and you also see many Arabs, who didn’t come before but now do. But there are Argentines too, the usual customers are with us.”

Regarding the tradition imposed by Narbonne, Meca concludes: “last year was like starting over. After the pandemic we changed many things, now we have the party in a new room, which we built especially and gave it the name El Galpón, which is located down the Narbona ravine. It is done there, not upstairs, in the restaurant.
