George RR Martin revealed that he has 3 Game of Thrones animated series in the works

The Westeros creator revealed that he previously had four animated series proposals in development with HBO.

Inspired by a recent screening of the animated series Netflix “Blue Eye Samurai”the creator of game of Thrones, George R.R. Martinwrote a new post on his blog praising the work of Amber Noizumi and Michael Green. And while he was in the mood to share, Martin decided to drop news about his own promising aspirations in animation.

“’Blue Eye Samurai’ is very much its own thing and it’s magnificent,” Martin wrote. “Even if you don’t normally watch animation, give it a try. It’s fantastic. If you like my own stuff, I think you’ll love it.”

The writer then moved on to his current job. “It just so happens that HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we’re getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.”

The Westeros creator revealed that he previously had four animated series proposals in development with HBO. The Variety portal broke the news of the animated series Game of Thrones in 2021, and Martin went even further by revealing that several writers’ rooms, scripts and outlines were created; Unfortunately, two of the four projects were “shelved,” as Martin put it.

The “Sea Snake” series goes from live action to animation

While he continues to work hard on the two remaining animated projects, Martin also dropped the news that his previously announced “Sea Snake” series would also be moving to animation.

“We’ve moved ‘Nine Voyages,’ our series about the legendary voyages of Sea Snake, from live action to animation. A measure that I fully support. Budget constraints would likely have made a live-action version prohibitively expensive, with half the show taking place at sea and the need to create a different port each week, from Driftmark to Lys, the Basilisk Islands, Volantis, Qarth and… well, Again and again and again. There’s a whole world out there. And we have many more possibilities to show everything with animation. “So now we have three animated projects going.”

What will the animated series of Game of Thrones be?

The names and plots of the two mysterious animated series remain a secret. For years now, numerous projects derived from game of Thronesfrom the series “Flea Bottom” until the series “10,000 Ships”. Last April, Variety broke the news that a prequel about Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros was in development and that the series had also been commissioned “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”. It is likely that some of these series will end up arriving in animated form.

Meanwhile, the second season of House of Dragon will premiere in early summer 2024.
