She was a professional writer in France, who left around 40 manuscripts from 1400: Christine de Pizan (1364–1430), is dedicated to Monika Leisch-Kiesl, since 1996 professor at the Catholic University (KU) Linz: Today the art historian and philosopher presents online in Interview with KU graduate Raphaela Hemetsberger about her publication “The Lady Reason and the Writing of History”, the focus of which is de Pizan’s main work “The Book of the City of Women”.

“As one of the first feminist works in European literature, it tells allegorically of a city built by women for women,” says Leisch-Kiesl, who came across the author during her historical gender research. “In a time organized by class, she addresses and encourages women of all social groups – from workers to rulers. If you open Monika Leisch-Kiesl’s publication, you will not only find an introduction to the writer, but also “wonderful manuscripts” in a section devoted to book art. She also investigates the question of the extent to which de Pizan’s work is still relevant today. (cash)
