Ana Ofelia Murguiathe Mexican actress best known for playing the main character of the animated film disney and Pixar of 2017 “Coconut”, died on Sunday, December 31, according to BBC News. He was 90 years old.

“Coco,” which follows a boy as he crosses into the land of the dead during the Day of the Dead in Mexico, won two Academy Awards, for best animated film and best original song for “Remember me”. Murguía voices the elderly Mama Coco, whose memory of her father is revived by her great-grandson, Miguel. In the emotional climax, Coco de Murguía sings the film’s central song, “Recuérdame,” with Miguel.
“Coco” was praised for its depiction of Mexican culture and celebrated for its exploration of heavy themes, such as death, through the lens of a children’s film.
Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature paid tribute to Murguía on X/Twitter, writing that his “career was vital to the performing arts of Mexico.”

Murguía, who was born in Mexico in 1933, won the special Ariel de Oro award for lifetime achievement in 2011 at a ceremony honoring the best of Mexican cinema. The award went jointly to the screenwriter and director Jorge Fons. Throughout her career, Murguía won the Ariel Awards (the Mexican equivalent of the Oscars) for best supporting actress in 1979, 1986 and 1996.
With more than 100 acting credits, Murguía began in an episode of the Mexican soap opera “Storm”. His most famous roles include “Queen of the night” from 1994, “My Dear Tom Mix” from 1992 and “Life Sentence” of 1979.
Murguía’s last acting role was in a 2018 episode of “José José: The Prince of Song”a fictional retelling of the life story of the famous Mexican singer.
