In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the founding member addressed a series of canceled dates as part of the band’s reunion tour. “Public Service Announcement of Rage”.
“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all of the canceled RATM shows,” he wrote. “I don’t want to entangle people or myself any more. So while there has been some communication that this could happen in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry to those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it were that way…”
The comings and goings of Rage Against the Machine
This isn’t the first time Rage has pulled the plug on the band. The quartet, formed by the leader Zack de la Rochathe bassist Tim Commerfordthe guitarist Tom Morello and Wilk, formed in the early 1990s and shook the mainstream with their reactionary and politically charged music. But after all of his success, Rocha issued a statement in 2000 in which he said that he was leaving the band because “our decision-making process has completely failed.” The remaining members split off to form Audioslave with the singer Chris Cornellwho would inevitably leave the band in 2007.
That same year, Rage reunited to headline Coachella and subsequently toured in the following years. In 2011, they had given their last show at LA Rising, which marked their second breakup. But of course, Rage took a third wind in 2020, announcing the Public Service Announcement tour. The Covid pandemic forced them to postpone the trip and, inevitably, Rage resumed it in 2022. On the second date of the tour, Rocha tore his Achilles tendon, and although they finished the first leg of the planned shows, they canceled the rest due to the severity of their injuries.
More recently, Rage was largely absent during his induction ceremony. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Morello was the only member present to accept the honor, noting that the group, which often clashes, has “different opinions on many things, including admission.” However, he paid tribute to Rage and thanked the “fifth member of the band,” referring to the fans.
