Yesterday Queen Margrethe II held her last public audience, after which her appointment calendar was empty – until now.
Before her announced abdication on Sunday, Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II (83) cannot yet completely sit back. A new item on the program appeared in their public calendar, namely the reception of the new Ukrainian ambassador Andriy Janewskyj for the inaugural audience at Amalienborg Palace tomorrow.
The monarch had already held her last public audience as acting regent at Christiansborg Palace on Monday – at that time her calendar was empty until the change of throne on Sunday.
In her annual New Year’s speech on New Year’s Eve, Margrethe surprisingly announced that she would pass on the throne to her son, Crown Prince Frederik (55). She chose January 14th as the date for this – the day of her 52nd anniversary on the throne.
