During Franz Beckenbauer’s eventful career, he accumulated a considerable fortune. He already decided in 2019 how this should be dealt with after his death.
There are hardly two opinions about the sporting legacy of Franz Beckenbauer, who died on Sunday at the age of 78. His long-time teammate Sepp Maier said: “Franz definitely deserves a monument; he did so much for German football as a player, coach and official.” The coach Jürgen Klopp praised him as “Germany’s best footballer of all time”. A few days after Beckenbauer’s death, some people are now asking themselves what his financial legacy will look like.

A look back at his life in pictures
There are different information about his assets. The “Bunte” estimates it to be around 80 million euros, other sources such as “20minuten” or “Blick” write about 160 million euros. One thing is certain: Franz Beckenbauer already had a will in 2019, as he revealed in an interview with “Bunten”. He didn’t want “discord to arise in the family” – that’s why he wanted to have his estate sorted out.
The “Emperor” had several sources of income. Even though at the time of his football career the salaries were not nearly the same as those in the industry today, he was one of the top earners. But Beckenbauer was known to an entire generation primarily as an advertising face. He is said to have had seven advertising contracts at the same time, and some of the slogans that came out of his mouth (“Is it Christmas today?”) still resonate – just like the hit “No one can separate good friends”, which made it into the German singles list. Charts made it.
Franz Beckenbauer invested in real estate
Much of this income flowed into social organizations, but according to the “Bunten” one of Beckenbauer’s important investments was the purchase of real estate – the sale of which his wife Heidi is now apparently allowed to dispose of. According to the magazine, two of these houses will go into the hands of the Beckenbauer children Francesca (20) and Joel (23): the majority of a property in Kitzbühel and the family’s residence in Salzburg. Heidi Beckenbauer should also receive ownership.
The “Bunte” does not provide any information about the extent to which Beckenbauer’s older sons Thomas (60) and Michael (57) were specifically considered in the will. His son Stephan died in 2015.
