Jacinda Ardern: New Zealand’s former prime minister has finally said yes

Two years later than planned, New Zealand’s former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern married her long-term partner.

Jacinda Ardern (43) and Clarke Gayford (47) actually wanted to get married in 2022. However, strict Corona regulations thwarted the plans of the then Prime Minister of New Zealand and her long-term partner. Two years later, it finally worked: Ardern and Gayford tied the knot in a small private ceremony on the North Island on the afternoon of January 13th.

Jacinda Ardern has married her “best friend”.

Ardern is said to have given a five-minute speech in which she raved about her new husband and called him her “best friend”. The 43-year-old wore a strapless white halter neck wedding dress with a cutout back by New Zealand designer Juliette Hogan. She paired it with a long tulle veil. The groom wore a classic black suit.

According to media reports, the couple’s five-year-old daughter, Neve, also attended the ceremony. She is said to have worn a dress made from the fabric of her grandmother’s wedding dress. Ardern and Gayford have been a couple for around ten years, and their daughter was born in June 2018 – during Ardern’s term as Prime Minister. Almost a year ago, on January 19, 2023, Ardern announced her resignation as Prime Minister after almost six years in office.
