The corona pandemic will also throw a spanner in the works of the Vienna Opera Ball in the coming year. The event originally planned for February 24, 2022 has now been officially canceled. “We have done everything to maintain the possibility that the Opera Ball can still take place. But the whole situation at the moment simply does not offer the necessary conditions,” said State Opera Director Bogdan Roscic
The ball took months of preparation. Since the deadlines could no longer be met, the organizers now had to pull the rip cord. “The uncertainty caused by Omikron was added, the uncertainty among the guests was greater every day,” said Roscic. The committee is now working on a replacement program for the coming week and on initial ideas for the Opera Ball in 2023.
