The Snow Society broke a Netflix record

Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) is in charge of the production that tells the story based on the book of the same name by Pablo Vierci.

The Snow Societydirected by JA Bayona11 days after its premiere in Netflixbecame one of the most watched non-English language films in the history of the service, with more than 51 million hours watched in different countries around the world.

The film, which tells the impressive true story of the 16 survivors of the tragedy in the Andes, continues in the #1 position of the Top 10 global non-English speaking films in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico and Spain. In addition, it is the one selected by Spain to compete for Best International Film at the 2024 Academy Awards.

What The Snow Society is about

“In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to take a rugby team to Chile, crashes into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most inaccessible and hostile environments on the planet, are forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive,” indicates the synopsis shared by the streaming platform.

The film is based on the book The Snow Society by Pablo Vierci. The script is written by JA Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego.

The cast is made up of: Enzo Vogrincic Roldán, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella, Tomas Wolf, Diego Ariel Vegezzi, Esteban Kukuriczka, Francisco Romero, Rafael Federman, Felipe González Otaño, Agustín Della Corte, Valentino Alonso, Simón Hempe, Fernando Contigiani García, Benjamín Segura, Jerónimo Bosia.

Filming took place in Sierra Nevada (Andalusia), Montevideo (Uruguay) and in different locations in the Andes (both in Chile and Argentina) including The Valley of Tears, the real location where the story took place.
