Fashion: Ashley Graham on clothing sizes and standing still

The model has been campaigning for self-acceptance and against exclusionary ideals of beauty for many years. Today it complains about a standstill in some areas of the fashion industry.

US model Ashley Graham says she sometimes has difficulty getting clothes in her size. “There are still some designers who say, ‘Sorry, we can’t, we’re just not going to design something for a larger body,'” the 36-year-old told People magazine. “Things have changed a lot in some ways and in others they’ve just come to a standstill.”

If you look at catwalks today, not much has changed in the fashion industry, explained Graham, who has been campaigning for self-acceptance and against exclusionary beauty ideals for many years. “If you look at the designers, some of them dress different body types, but that’s not the norm.” That’s why she “doesn’t want to stop talking about my body and about attracting people with larger sizes,” explained Graham.
