Viviane Geppert proves that family and success at work are not a contradiction.
Viviane Geppert (32) seems to manage to balance child and work in a playful way. Their son Luka was born in spring 2023. After a short maternity break, the presenter was back in front of the camera in October for “taff” and other TV projects. “I’m incredibly grateful and happy,” enthuses the 32-year-old on the sidelines of a L’Oréal Paris campaign.
Geppert is in front of the camera for the new haircare series “Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic”. Even though her style has become more practical as a new mother, her long mane remains unaffected. “I love my long hair and could never imagine cutting it off,” she explains in the interview.
Dear Viviane, your son will be celebrating his first birthday in the spring. How have you experienced the past few months?
Viviane Geppert: That’s really hard to believe and it’s like everyone always said: time flies! The past few months have definitely been an emotional rollercoaster. Becoming a mother for the first time changes everything. At some point you think you’ve got the hang of it and everything is different again. Pure happiness, joy at every smile and every progress, unconditional love for this little creature, lack of sleep, uncertainty in new situations, fear of doing something wrong… it all really comes together and is so crazy and exciting. I’m incredibly grateful and happy to be experiencing this right now and I’m looking forward to every day right now.
How has your life changed as a mother?
Geppert: The little one completely turned my life upside down. Suddenly another little person comes along and always comes first – everything is interpreted and decided according to him. Of course, this also requires more organization and preparation. We sleep a lot less, which often drains our strength, but when he smiles cheekily at us in the morning, everything is forgotten.
After a short maternity break, you were back in front of the camera in October for “taff” and other TV projects. How do you manage to balance work and career?
Geppert: I have help from my family and a really great nanny who supports me on my working days. That’s really great and I’m very grateful that I can do my job again alongside being a mom. Nevertheless, I have to say that the focus has changed. Of course the little one comes first now. But so far the combination is working great.
Are you looking for baby pounds in vain?
Geppert: I also think you shouldn’t look for them anywhere. I never put pressure on myself or put in extra effort when exercising or eating. Pregnancy has given me a completely different love and appreciation for my body and I feel much more comfortable today than before, even though my body may not have changed much to other people from the outside. That’s just how it is. Just like it’s okay for a body to develop differently during pregnancy or during pregnancy. I am proud of my body and what it has achieved.
Before you became pregnant, you exercised three to four times a week. How has your exercise routine changed?
Geppert: At the moment I really can’t do anything, let alone sport (laughs). It’s really hard to figure out your exercise routine when you have a child; most of the time you just want to fall into bed and sleep when your little one takes a nap. But I try to squeeze in yoga to strengthen my back and stay flexible. I have the arm training with me for free every day with almost 9 kilos (laughs).
Has your personal style changed as a mom?
Geppert: My style has definitely become more practical. High heels are only worn when presenting or on date nights with my husband – during the day they have to be comfortable sneakers. And if I’m honest, I haven’t actually bought anything for myself in months, I’ve only been shopping for the little one. I’m having a lot more fun with this at the moment.
Shorter hair would certainly be more practical. Have you ever thought about parting with your trademark long mane?
Geppert: Never! I love my long hair and could never imagine cutting it off. I have been caring for them for 30 years. I don’t dare experiment with my hair (laughs).
Many people envy your hair, what care tips do you have?
Geppert: I think the biggest tip is to take good care of your hair and give it a lot of attention and care. I only wash it every three to four days and rely on my moisturizing care routine: I use the “Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic” hair care product. I also need an intensive moisturizing mask with every wash and I’m a fan of nourishing hair oil for the ends. I also try to let my hair air dry as often as possible and if I use heat, I never do so without heat protection. I also think it’s important not to use a straightener or curling iron every day.
The new year has just begun, what do you have planned for 2024?
Geppert: I want to spend a lot of time with my family and my loved ones. Every moment with my little son is so exciting right now because he is learning so many new things and changing and developing so quickly. I’m really looking forward to the new year as a small family. I also have a few great professional projects coming up that I’m already looking forward to. I’m super happy in both areas.
Have you also made any resolutions?
Geppert: To go through life calmly and positively. Spending a lot of time with my friends and family and investing more time in sport, my body and my health. Let’s see if that works (laughs).
