When Sofia Vergara, best known as the fiery Latina on “Modern Family,” and the muscle-bound dancer from “Magic Mike,” Joe Manganiello, tied the knot in 2015, it was considered one of Hollywood’s hottest marriages. Then the end came unexpectedly in the summer. Now Vergara has revealed for the first time why the marriage failed.
“My husband was younger, he wanted children,” she revealed in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “El Pais”, which was actually about her new Netflix series “Griselda”. “But I didn’t want to be an old mother. I don’t think that’s fair to the baby. I respect it when others do that, but it’s no longer for me,” explained the now 51-year-old.

Vergara and Manganiello met at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2014 and married a year later. Vergara was 43 at the time and her groom was 40. It was Vergara’s second marriage – and she was already a mother. “I had my son when I was 19, he’s 32 now”; she tells “El Pais”. “I’m ready to slowly become a grandmother, not a mother again.”
Having children of her own is no longer an issue for her. “I’m almost in menopause, it’s the natural course of things,” she believes. “When my son has children, he’s welcome to bring the baby to me. And then I’ll give it back to him and get on with my life.” Even though she currently enjoys dating, she no longer wants men who want to have children. “So if love works out again, he’ll have to bring his own children with him.”

Marriage over after seven years
In the summer, Vergara and Manganiello surprisingly announced the end of their marriage in a joint statement. After seven years, they made “the difficult decision” to end the marriage,” it said. Two days later, the actor, also known for “How I Met Your Mother” and “True Blood,” filed for divorce because of the famous “irreconcilable Differences”.
Both of them seem to be coping with the end of the marriage quite well. Manganiello is in a relationship with fellow actor Caitlin O’Connor, Vergara publicly plays about how much she enjoys the single life. “I’m single now and there are more people in New York. Above all, it’s not just actors, writers or directors,” enthused the Los Angeles-based actress in an interview with late night host Jimmy Fallon. I think there is more choice. I’m going to spend more time in New York.”
