As has only now become known, Marianne Hamre lost the long battle against cancer (brain tumor) on December 1st, she died at the age of 49 in Bern, Switzerland.
Born in Norway, she took the Linz audience by storm after completing her training with Klaus Maria Brandauer and Susanne Granzer. Drama boss Gerhard Willert had brought the captivatingly humorous Hamre to Linz. Here she triumphed right at the beginning as Eve in Kleist’s “The Broken Krug”, but also subsequently in Lessing’s “Emilia Galotti”, in Bernhard’s “Theatermacher”, in Molnar’s “Liliom”, in Ibsen’s “Nora” and in Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream “. After Linz there followed engagements at the Salzburg Festival, the Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Stadttheater Bern. In the past few years she had withdrawn from the stage due to illness.
