One of the most important jazz guitarists of the last thirty years arrives in Argentina.

One of the most important Jazz guitarists of the last thirty years returns to Argentina. Russell Malone, currently a member of the trio of double bassist and legend Ron Carter. He has also performed and recorded with musicians such as Jimmy Smith, Harry Connick Jr., Bobby Hutcherson, Hank Jones, Bill Frisell, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Barron, Sonny Rollins, among others.

Russell Malone was born in Albany, Georgia. He began to be interested in music at the age of four, learning to play a toy guitar that his mother had given him. His first influences were BB King and The Dixie Hummingbirds. Mostly self-taught, Malone was struck at age twelve by a television performance by George Benson with Benny Goodman.

He began his musical career in 1988, first with Jimmy Smith, with whom he collaborated for two years, and then with Harry Connick Jr. with whom he remained for the next three years. In 1995 she joined Diana Krall’s backing trio as a guitarist, participating in the recording of three Grammy Award-nominated albums, including When I Look in Your Eyes, a Grammy-winning album for best jazz vocal performance. At the end of the decade, Malone participated in several recordings by pianist Benny Green: Kaleidoscope (1997), These Are Soulful Days (1999) and Naturally (2000). Later, the two formed a duo with which they published the albums Jazz at The Bistro in 2003 and Bluebird in 2004. They performed until 2007.

Malone has collaborated on tours with Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove and Dianne Reeves and has been a session musician backing artists such as Kenny Barron, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Jack McDuff, Mulgrew Miller and Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson. He recorded his first solo album in 1992 and also led his own trio and quartet. Other notable collaborations have been with Bobby Hutcherson, Dr. Lonnie Smith and with veteran pianist Hank Jones during his 90th birthday celebration. In October 2008 he formed a partnership with guitarist Bill Frisell. During the following year, Malone joined saxophonist Sonny Rollins’ band.

Malone made a live recording between September 9 and 11, 2005, at the Jazz Standard in New York, which was published by the Maxjazz label on two albums, Live at Jazz Standard, Volume One (2006) and Live at Jazz Standard, Volume Two (2007). The band that recorded these albums, under the name The Russell Malone Quartet, was formed by pianist Martin Bejerano, bassist Tassili Bond and drummer Johnathan Blake.
