The hour-long special, titled “George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead” (“I’m glad to be dead”, alluding to the fact that this routine would arrive, 15 years after his death, from the beyond) was released two weeks ago on Dudesy’s YouTube channel, where it is still available and has already been reproduced half a million times.

Dudesy is an AI specialized in comedy that had already attracted attention last year because it hosts a comedy podcast with the Canadian actor and comedian Will Sassowith whom you interact in real time.
After the release of the special, and despite the fact that from the beginning it is requested that it be heard as an “imitation” as a tribute, Carlin’s daughter, Kelly, had harshly criticized the “attempts to recreate a mind that will never come back into existence.”
The lawsuit by George Carlin’s heirs for the use of his image made with artificial intelligence
Now, the heirs of the rights to Carlin’s legacy have filed a petition in California courts. lawsuit asking for the special to be immediately removed from YouTube and a sum of money in damages. The argument is that in order to create the special, and as those responsible for Dudesy recognize, it was created after the chatbot was fed with all the materials that the comedian had published in his life.
According to the lawsuit, by doing so without permission or license the company infringed its intellectual property rights.
Additionally, the plaintiff argues that the content harms Carlin’s reputation and that the use of his voice to promote the video is the “theft of the work of a great American artist.”
“My father was a legendary comedian and a unique talent whose legacy is the material he left behind – his performances, albums and books. I understand and share the desire for more George Carlin. I also want more time with my father. But it is ridiculous to proclaim that he has been ‘resurrected’ with AI,” Kelly Carlin said in the statement accompanying the announcement of the lawsuit.
“The ‘George Carlin’ in that video is not the beautiful human being who defined a generation and who raised me with love. “It is a poorly executed facsimile, cobbled together by unscrupulous individuals to capitalize on the extraordinary goodwill my father established with his adoring fan base,” he completed.
