Steve Bronski, the co-founder of the band Bronski Beat, has died. The musician was 61 years old. Jimmy Somerville is not the only one in mourning.
Steve Bronski died at the age of 61. A friend confirmed the death of the keyboardist and co-founder of the British pop synth group Bronski Beat on the BBC. Bronski was a “gentle, kind and talented man”. The cause of death is unknown.
Bronski’s former bandmate Jimmy Somerville (60). “It’s sad to hear that Steve Bronski has died,” wrote the singer about a photo showing him and Bronski with Larry Steinbachek, the group’s hit producer. “He was a talented and very melodic man.” He added, “Working with him on songs and a song that changed our lives and touched so many other lives has been a fun and exciting time. Thanks for the tune, Steve.”
Success in the 80s
Bronski Beat were founded in 1983. The best known songs include “Smalltown Boy”, “Why?” and “Hit That Perfect Beat”. The debut album “The Age of Consent” from 1984 was also successful in Germany, reached tenth place in the charts and received a gold record. Then singer Jimmy Somerville got out of the band.
At the end of the 1980s, the group finally disbanded completely, and a comeback attempt in the 90s failed. Drummer Larry Steinbachek died of cancer in 2016 at the age of 56. In 2017, Bronski was the only remaining original member to release a new album after 22 years.
