Is he now a fan of Donald Trump? After repeated criticism of the former US President, rapper Snoop Dogg is now conciliatory.
Rapper Snoop Dogg (52) has repeatedly shown himself to be a critic of former US President Donald Trump (77) in the past. But he is now more conciliatory and declares about the candidate for re-election as president: “Donald Trump? He hasn’t done anything bad to me.” Instead, he did “only great things” for him. The rapper said he had “nothing but love and respect” for Trump and explained: “He pardoned Michael Harris.”
Harris was a co-founder of the record label Death Row Records in the early 1990s, where Snoop Dogg released his debut album “Doggystyle” in 1993. In the last days of his term in office, Trump pardoned the ex-label boss, who had been imprisoned since 1988 for attempted murder and kidnapping, in 2021. At that point, Snoop Dogg, who is said to have campaigned for the pardon, had already described the work of Trump and his team as “great”. “I want them to know that I really appreciate what they have done.”
Meaningful music video
Snoop Dogg had previously spoken out against Trump. In 2017, he released a music video for the song “Lavender” in which he points a gun at a clown dressed like Trump. The then US President then defended himself: “Can you imagine how big the outcry would be if Snoop Dogg […] aimed and fired at President Obama? Jail sentence!”
According to a report by “Page Six”, the rapper declared on US radio in 2020 that Trump had to be voted out and that he wanted to vote for the first time in his life. For many years he thought that as a criminal he had no right to do this. Snoop Dogg had already had conflicts with the law in his youth. When asked whether he would vote, the musician replied: “Absolutely, because we have to bring about change.”
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Snoop Dogg remained vague when asked whether he would support a candidate in the presidential race: “Maybe I have to,” he said, adding: “Because there are different opinions on that, so I want to see what people say.”
