Jungle camp star David Odonkor: That’s why the half-naked bottoms bothered him

In an interview after leaving the jungle camp, David Odonkor explains why he is against clothing that is too tight on the show.

David Odonkor (39) was elected from the jungle camp. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the “I’m a star – get me out of here!” candidate (RTL and RTL+) reveals how he himself experienced the fuss he caused about too much bare skin on the show.

How are you feeling after the exit and how disappointed are you about it?

David Odonkor: I’m actually doing very well. I was already disappointed, but there’s nothing you can do about it. The viewers have decided. But I’m still happy that I was able to take part in the format.

What was the biggest challenge for you?

Odonkor: That was the whole jungle camp in general. What we were allowed to do, what we were allowed to see, how we felt. That was quite a challenge.

Recently, your fight against clothing that was too tight caused a stir among women. Have you noticed the reactions to it?

Odonkor: Yes. I can’t understand that at all. I said quite normally and politely that the ladies should please put something on, which is okay to say and which wasn’t a problem at all for the girls. We had another conversation about it afterwards. If I had said it differently and worded it differently, I would have understood the reactions. But I can’t understand it that way. After all, we are on the largest television format in Germany and that’s why I addressed it normally.

How did you explain to Leyla and Kim what bothers you about the skimpy outfits?

Odonkor: I said very politely that I have nothing against them. I said that they should please put something on because they are in the biggest German format. This is not a dating show. And you can’t have a normal conversation if your bottom is on display all the time.

Which of your fellow participants was the greatest support for you emotionally in the camp?

Odonkor: I supported myself for the most part because I was in a very good place mentally. I motivated the other campers, had a lot of conversations and that’s why everything worked out.

Was there anyone you found to be a burden on the team?

Odonkor: The arguments were simply a burden. This has put a strain on all of us.

Has the experience in the jungle camp changed you?

Odonkor: The jungle camp hasn’t changed me. I’m still the David who moved in two weeks ago. I learned a lot, I gained new experiences, that’s the nice thing.

Who is your favorite for the jungle crown?

Odonkor: It always depends on how you develop over the days. But if Tim keeps going like this, he could make it work.

What conclusion do you draw for yourself?

Odonkor: It was a great experience. You don’t get something like that every day. You only get something like that once in your life. Everything was fine.

What’s next for you now that you’re leaving?

Odonkor: I spoke to my family on the phone. I drank a coffee, had a nice meal and will enjoy the evening here and watch the show tomorrow morning.

Which of your fellow contestants will you stay in touch with beyond the show?

Odonkor: With Tim and with Mike.
