Actress Gertraud Jesserer died at the age of 77

Her son Michael Vogel confirmed this to the APA on Friday. In her long career she was, among other things, a castle actress, shaped domestic television history with the “Leitner family” and worked with divas such as Romy Schneider and Catherine Deneuve.

Jesserer made her debut in Franz Molnar’s “Liliom” at the Theater in der Josefstadt, of which she was a member until 1969. After engagements at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and again at the Theater in der Josefstadt, she came to the Vienna Burgtheater in 1973/74, to which she belonged until her retirement. In 2019 she could be seen in the academy theater in the play “At the time of the queen mother”. The delicate actress convinced time and again with powerful figures. In addition to her stage work, she also appeared in numerous cinema and television films. In almost 100 episodes of the impromptu series “Leitner Family” she was part of “Gerda”.

In 1974 she was awarded the Kainz Medal, in 2003 with the Golden Decoration of Honor in Vienna, and in 2015 with the Gold Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital. Jesserer was married to the late actor Peter Vogel. The older of their two sons, Nick Vogel, died as a photo reporter at Ljubljana Airport in 1991 during the Yugoslavian War.
