Alec Baldwin: Pleaded not guilty after arraignment

Alec Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to a new involuntary manslaughter charge in the Rust case.

In a new trial for negligent homicide in connection with the fatal shooting on the “Rust” set in 2021, Alec Baldwin (65) has pleaded “not guilty”. The actor was originally scheduled to testify before a judge in New Mexico on February 1st at 11 a.m. local time – in person, by telephone or via video conference. Instead, he submitted a written plea on Wednesday.

However, according to court documents, Baldwin must adhere to several conditions. Among other things, he is prohibited from owning weapons and consuming alcohol. He is not allowed to leave the United States without the court’s approval. As co-producer and star of the film, Baldwin is allowed to promote “Rust.” However, he is also prohibited from discussing the fatal accident on set.

New charges against Baldwin came in January

The actor was indicted by a grand jury in New Mexico on January 19th. The background: In October 2021, camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) died on the film set of the western “Rust”. A prop weapon that Baldwin held during a rehearsal was apparently loaded with live ammunition and went off – how this could have happened is not yet clear.

In spring 2023, special investigators initially rejected charges against Baldwin. The 65-year-old said he did not pull the trigger on the weapon during the test. At that time, however, a statement from the investigating authority said that they reserved the right to charge Alec Baldwin again if new facts emerged. The actor vehemently denies the allegations. According to the New York Times, Alec Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison with the new charges.

The weapons master is also charged

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the weapons on the “Rust” set, was also previously charged with involuntary manslaughter. Her trial is scheduled for February.
