Little is known about Princess Kate’s operation in a London clinic and there is even more speculation. Now the palace has defended itself against suggestions made in a Spanish TV show.
It is probably the best-kept secret of the royal family in Great Britain at the moment: What is wrong with Princess Kate? In January, Kensington Palace surprised with the news that the wife of heir to the throne William would have to undergo planned abdominal surgery. She will stay in the London private clinic for about two weeks, then rest will be ordered until after Easter. No public appearances, no further statements.
Princess Kate: Excitement over statements by Spanish journalist
Meanwhile, speculation abounds about Kate’s health. In a news program on Spanish television, royal expert Concha Calleja gave her two cents on the topic. Kate read in a “coma,” Calleja said, and was in “great danger,” she blatantly claimed. As if she was standing next to the surgical team in the operating room, she said: “There were serious complications that they didn’t expect because the operation went well, but the post-operation period didn’t go so well.” Princess Kate is currently recovering at home in Windsor, where, according to Calleja, a “whole hospital” has been built.

The journalist’s statements are causing a stir in England – and it looks like in the palace too. A palace source told the British Telegraph that Calleja’s report was “complete nonsense.” “The journalist made no attempt to verify her statements with anyone in the household,” the palace source also said. “This is basically completely made up, and I’ll put it politely here: it’s absolutely not the case,” said the palace insider.
Kate was released from the hospital
Contrary to Calleja’s statements, the latest statement from Kensington Palace sounded positive. “The Princess of Wales has returned to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress,” the palace said. What’s actually behind Kate’s abdominal surgery will probably remain the royal family’s best-kept secret – until she wants to talk about it herself.
