Elton John and David Furnish attended a funeral on Friday morning. The superstar had to lean on a stick.
British superstar Sir Elton John (76) and his husband David Furnish (61) attended the funeral of Derek Draper (1967-2024) in London on Friday morning. The “Rocket Man” performer went to the memorial service at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Primrose Hill with the help of a crutch and his husband’s arm.
John flashed a brave smile before walking into the church, where family, many prominent friends and political associates paid their last respects to the deceased. The widow held her two children’s hands as they waited outside the church for the coffin to arrive.
The political advisor Derek Draper was the husband of radio and television journalist Kate Garraway (56). He died on January 3rd at the age of 56 after a long battle with severe long-term Covid disease.
Elton John: “I’m so sorry”
Kate Garraway announced the sad news of her husband’s death on Instagram, revealing that she held his hand as he died in a north London hospital.
Elton John then wrote on his Instagram Stories: “My heart goes out to Kate, Darcey, William and the whole family after the death of Derek. David, the boys and I are thinking of you and sending you all our love.” But he also commented on Garraway’s original post: “So sorry to hear about this news Kate. Love and thoughts to you and your family x”.
Last April, Draper and his family attended an Elton concert at the O2 Arena, where the 76-year-old superstar dedicated a song to the family. Garraway admitted the trip had to be planned for months due to Draper’s weakened condition.
Derek Draper has struggled with health problems after contracting Covid in 2020 and suffering a cardiac arrest in December 2023, as a result of which his wife spent Christmas with him in hospital.
