Bryan Cranston suggests that the proposed restart of The Office be a movie instead of a series. The Emmy-winning actor for Breaking Bad pitched the idea to the cast members Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) while appearing on her podcast Office Ladies.
“Let’s say there isn’t a rebooted series, but what if there was a movie?” Cranston asked. “Something where we can see where these people are. These people throughout the cast we’re curious about. We wonder in the end, where did they go? What happened to them?”
Fischer said she would be a candidate for a film version of The Office as long as the showrunner Greg Daniels was involved, “because [entonces] I would trust it. Know? As long as Greg writes it and is in charge, then I say yes.”
“I would do it for my kids because I think they would think it was fun,” Kinsey added.
Cranston has ties to The Office as director of the season nine episode ‘Work Bus’, but made it clear that he wouldn’t want a starring role in a possible reboot of the film.
“I just want to be an extra,” Cranston said. “I would be a boy. I’d be a crossing guard or something. Just something”.
What is known about the reboot of The Office
Despite Cranston’s suggestion, it appears that the proposed reboot will move forward as a television series and is unlikely to continue the existing characters’ story. Last year, Daniels said that he is not interested in a “reboot” in the traditional sense, but rather he would prefer to tell a different story within the same universe. So while original characters could still appear, it’s unlikely they will be the main focus of the show.
“I feel like we finished that story beautifully.”Daniels said of the original series. “The characters had closure. I would never want to remake the same show with a different cast, because I think we have the luckiest cast, the best cast on television, to do that show. Therefore, the idea of restarting is not of interest.
“The notion of maybe something like The Mandalorian is a new show in the Star Wars universe, you know what I mean?” Daniels continued, “Kind of like the idea of this documentary team making a documentary about a different topic.”
