Sylvester Stallone: Great sadness for “Rocky” co-star Carl Weathers

“He was absolutely brilliant”: Sylvester Stallone mourns the death of Carl Weathers. Arnold Schwarzenegger also remembers his colleague.

Sylvester Stallone (77) remembers his “Rocky” co-star Carl Weathers (1948-2024), who died at the age of 76, in an emotional social media post.

Stallone spoke about his fellow actor while a painting of the two of them from the film can be seen behind him.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for me,” Stallone began. “I’m so upset, I can’t even tell you.” He added that Carl Weathers was “such an integral part of my life, my success.” When Weathers “walked into the room and I saw him for the first time, I felt greatness. But I didn’t realize how great. Without him, I could never have achieved what we did with ‘Rocky.’ He was absolutely brilliant, his voice, his size, his strength, his athletic ability, but more importantly, his heart, his soul.”

Stallone continued: “It’s a terrible loss. And I’m standing here in front of this picture because it was probably the last moment we were in the ring together and I’ll never forget it. It was magical. And I had that Lucky to be able to take part in his life.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger is also in mourning

Arnold Schwarzenegger (76), who starred with Weathers in “Predator” in 1987, also used social media to mourn him. He called him a “legend.” “Carl Weathers will always be a legend”, . “An extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor and a great human being. Without him we couldn’t have made Predator. And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time filming it.” Every minute with him – on set and off – was “pure joy,” he added. “He was the kind of friend that pushed you to do your best just to keep up with him. I will miss him and my thoughts are with his family.”

Adam Sandler, 57, who starred with Weathers in the 1996 film “Happy Gilmore,” described the actor as “a true legend.” “A truly great man. Great father. Great actor. Great athlete”, . “It was always so much fun to be around him.” Sandler also said, among other things: “What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best time with him every time we saw him.”
