Udo Wachtveitl’s enjoyment of crime novels began at an early age. Now, however, he will soon turn his back on his role as a crime scene detective. There are said to be seven more cases involving the duo from Munich.
Crime scene detective Udo Wachtveitl wore the investigator’s costume when he was a child. He once dressed up at carnival as John Steed – the agent in the British television series “With Umbrella, Charm and Melone” from the 1960s, as Wachtveitl said in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Saturday).
“It wasn’t easy to get a melon,” Wachtveitl said about his costume. Investigator Steed was the elegant British gentleman with a suit and bowler hat, a special type of hat. The actor was allowed to watch the series – “if I was really lucky” – with his grandmother. “Looking out into the black and white and yet very colorful world with my chin propped up on the carpet. For me it was like a fairy tale.”
Wachtveitl will soon be retiring as a Munich crime scene investigator. His case tomorrow is case number 94 – there should be 100 in total. This probably ends Wachtveitl’s time filming Tatort together with Miroslav Nemec. After 30 years together in front of the camera, they get along well, as is clear in the FAZ interview: “Otherwise we wouldn’t have lasted for 30 years. We have different lifestyles, but it’s definitely more than just professional-induced collegiality “.
