Willie Garson can be seen as Stanford Blatch in the sequel to “Sex and the City”. While filming he was already suffering from pancreatic cancer. Only Sarah Jessica Parker found out about this at first.
He’s one of the most popular and iconic characters from Sex and the City: Stanford Blatch, gay best friend of main character Carrie Bradshaw. Behind the scenes, the cast, Willie Garson and Sarah Jessica Parker, became friends. And so she was the only one who knew that Garson was suffering from pancreatic cancer while filming the SATC follow-up series “And Just Like That”. This was revealed by Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbs, according to industry service “Deadline”. The rest of the cast only found out about the disease after it became “undeniable”.
“Thankfully we were able to film with him not only before he got sick, but also afterwards. We were able to talk to him about it and listen to him,” said the actress. “I know that was very important to us and I think it was important to him too – not to hide it from us any longer.”
Willie Garson died in September at the age of 57
Garson died on September 21 in Los Angeles. He left his son Nathen. The young man was present at the premiere of “And Just Like That” and posed with Parker, Nixon and other actors. His father can be seen in the first two episodes of the HBO Max series, which have already been released. How those responsible take up the actor’s death in the sequel remains open.
In the series, Carrie & Co. also have to cope with the death of a main character. With reference to this, Cynthia Nixon explains in the “Deadline” interview: “When Charlotte says, ‘Death is part of life’ it reminds us of how precious our loved ones are to us.” That includes Willie Garson.
