Charles had recently been treated for a benign enlarged prostate. “Another worrying issue was identified,” it said. As the two broadcasters and report, it is not prostate cancer. The palace also announced that Charles III. will forego public appointments for the time being: “His Majesty has begun a program of regular treatment today and the doctors have advised him not to undertake any public duties during this time. During this time, His Majesty will continue to carry out state affairs and official desk work as usual.”
King Charles is positive about treatment
Charles thanked the medical team for their rapid intervention, which was only possible because of his recent procedure in the hospital. He “remains positive about his treatment” and looks forward to “returning to full duty as soon as possible,” the statement continued.
King Charles wanted to announce the diagnosis publicly “to avoid speculation and in the hope that it will promote public understanding of all people affected by cancer around the world.” King Charles has been British monarch for more than a year after his mother Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022. He was discharged from the hospital after treatment a week ago.
In a first reaction, Great Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke up and wished Charles, who is also head of state, a speedy recovery: “I wish His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt that he will quickly get back to full strength, and I know the whole country will wish him well.”
