She has turned her back on the “Tagesschau”, but her passion for agriculture also has something to do with television.
Tomatoes were the first vegetables that ex-Tagesschau presenter Judith Rakers grew – at the age of six. “I saw it either on the “Sendung mit der Maus” or on “Löwenzahn” and then just copied it,” said the 48-year-old. How did the attempt turn out? She doesn’t remember that exactly. But according to her father, the harvest was more than bountiful.
“There were so many tomatoes that he gave them to his friend Robert. And he then sold them in his Edeka,” reveals the self-made farmer. “I don’t know if my father doesn’t romanticize it. But he’s sure.” Rakers, who was born in Paderborn, lives in the Hamburg area and has been growing vegetables there for self-sufficiency for six years. From 2005 to the end of January 2024 she presented the ARD “Tagesschau” and now she wants to devote more time to her entrepreneurial activities and spend more time on her farm, Rakers said.
