This was confirmed to the “Kurier” on Wednesday by the Lower Austrian Cultural Industry (NÖKU).
Loidolt initially worked in business. In 1981, together with his wife Renate Loidolt, he founded the Reichenau an der Rax cultural association and subsequently the Reichenau Festival in 1988, which was considered an artistically and economically successful cultural project. For 15 years he also served as chairman of the Theaterfest NÖ association, from which the festival later left.
Recipient of the Great Golden Medal of Honor
Loidolt also contributed the stage designs for the productions in Reichenau. After allegations from the Court of Auditors, the Loidolt couple resigned from their directorship in 2021 and the festival was taken over by the Lower Austrian Cultural Industry. As a result, Maria Happel became the new director of the festival.
Loidolt was a recipient of, among other things, the Great Golden Medal of Honor for services to the state of Lower Austria and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art.
“Through Peter Loidolt I found my artistic home in Reichenau,” said Maria Happel in response to the news of her predecessor’s death: “My current work is built on this foundation.” She is “very grateful to the long-time director for this. My condolences in these difficult times go out to the family, especially Renate Loidolt,” said the acting director of the festival.
